Michel Bouvet

Michel Bouvet is a French graphic designer who turned very early to poster art and graphics. He works mostly as a poster artist in the arts(theatre ,opera, music, dance, museums and festivals) and for institutions. Bouvet's posters can regularly be seen on the walls of Paris with creations for the Théâtre des Gémeaux similar to Batory's posters. Michel Bouvet's graphics are characterised by a dynamic use of colour, a love of typography and a certain sculptural dimension. He generally uses photography and everyday objects. The typography is part of the picture. Michel Bouvet uses it to underline emotion or sensibility of subject, like the theme of a play.
We can say that Michet Bouvet is a reference in French graphic design. That which do Michel Bouvet's strengths are a great simplicity and a immediate warm contact with the viewer.
For example, in the poster intitled "l'Idiot", we can only see a red plastic funnel with two eyes. It's simple, rudimentary, but we can't forget this image. This is the strength of Michel Bouvet'art and the strength of his posters.
Most people criticize his style and reproach him for a certain facility and too great simplicity. I think they are mistaken, because what they believe to be weakness is Michel Bouvet's talent.
His work might be discarded by some, but others recognize him as a reference.
So his style can also be found in the works of other graphic artists.
